My approach is based on the understanding that problems which cause psychological distress usually arise from underlying issues, often linked to difficult experiences in the past. Problematic patterns set in early childhood can impact on how we develop emotionally, and the hidden memories of early traumas or difficulties can continue to affect the way we feel and behave in the present. Individual therapy will help you to change how you feel about yourself and other significant people in your life with the aim of reducing your distressing symptoms.
I am trained to work intensively, and can see you up to four times a week, depending on your needs.
While I trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I also offer psychodynamic counselling, adapting my approach to your problems as they present themselves.
We will start by meeting one to one for at least one or two appointments in which I will primarily listen to what you tell me about yourself and your problems, in order to get a picture of your background and what you might need help with. This is a two-way assessment process, in which we need to identify what kind of therapy (including individual, couple or group) would be helpful for you, and whether we both think that we can work well together. If we conclude that you would benefit more from a different type of therapy (e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), I could then advise you on who to contact. If we agree that I am not the best therapist for you, then I would try to recommend a suitable colleague for you.
Cost per session: £60 - £90 depending on frequency and peak times. I hold a limited number of low-fee slots for those on a limited budget.
Individual sessions take place at my W10 address, or via a Zoom link if the situation indicates.
A regular time and day for individual sessions will be negotiated, according to your situation and my availability.
